  • Workflow fix P2 in FCP to AE on PC

Had an interesting question posed… not seeing the answer myself, nor do I really know if this is an issue or a workflow problem but I thought I’d ask here:

Here’s the problem: “I imported the P2 cards into Final Cut, which creates Quicktime DVCRPO HD files to edit with. The PC guy has a brand new copy of After Effects and the latest Quicktime, but it’s only displaying a white screen in the viewer (even though it pulls up the properties of the file correctly inside Quicktime). He’s got the P2 Viewer and can view MXF files, so I can’t figure out why the Quicktime files won’t display.”

Is there something simple we are all missing? Causing huge problems transfering to AE and for multi platform editing bays.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks,

FCP uses YUV color space and AE uses RGB color space.
So you are trying to view YUV footage in RGB.
Convert it to RGB before bringing into AE, and then re-convert to YUV when you need to bring it back to FCP

Actually… It has nothing to do with the YUV to RGB conversion, since AE can deal with that well enough.

The Apple DVCProHD codec comes with FCP – and is Mac only. So the Windows machine can’t open DVCProHD files, since the codec isn’t part of the Windows version of Quicktime.
