Workflow FCP7 and CS4
I need to start a workfow between FCP7 and Premiere CS4 for 4 hours of footage shot with the Panasonic AF100 as 1080p25. The two editing systems are in different countries but both parties have the raw footage.
My editing partner has already done a cut using CS4 and I asked for the compressed files so I can continue on the same edit. He sent me the compressed files as H.264 @ 30fps. I’m starting fresh on this cut but I set my sequence as Prores422 LT 25p to match the settings of the shot footage. When I import the files the sequence wants to match the files setting. If I say no it takes forever to render.How can I fix this?
I was looking also at doing a Log and Transfer of the entire footage in FCP and sharing it with him online but the files are too big to share. Even as DV they are still too large.
Even if we need to start on the edit again I am fine with it as long as we can setup both our systems to work efficiently. Can you please suggest the best way to work in parallel. As I said, we both have the raw files.

Premiere can edit the raw files from a DSLR which is H.264 and FCP 7 can’t. You will need to convert the H.264 files to Pro-Ress. Do you have Premiere? You may want to look into editing on Premiere if you still need to go back and forth with the other editor.

Thank you for the reply! In an ideal situation we’d both work in the same program. I haven’t got Premiere though. Also his version is Windows based and I am Mac.
Any idea on how to make it work with the two systems though? -
The footage will have to be converted to Quicktime in order for both of you to edit. I have not worked with an editor on a PC but I would see if they can work with Pro-Ress 422. If not pick a codec you both can agree on then log and transfer the footage. You will need to get the other editor the new clips and then you can go from there.
