Workflow efficiencies _Premiere Pro and SxS cards
Hi,
I’m an experienced editor who’s new to Premiere, most recently I’ve worked in Final Cut Pro 7 but I’ve worked in plenty of others over the years.
We shoot all of our footage on Sony Cameras that record on the SxS cards. In the Final Cut there was a free software that we would us from Sony to repackage the clips for Final Cut. It would also place the repackaged file onto our hard drive as it did. So then, once that was done we could remove the card to go shoot something else and cut the footage.
With Premiere, there’s no need for repackaging the footage, which is good, but without that step we now have to add a step of copying the footage off of our SxS cards onto the hard drive. Doing that manually is tedious, since the file structure of the card puts each clip into a separate folder.
Alternatively we could import the footage into Premiere and then Media manage it to copy it onto our hard drive.
I’m just wondering if anyone else who has maybe been working this combination for longer has any insights into how we can make this as smooth and efficient as possible.
Not knowing Premiere very well, I feel like I must be missing some easier ways to do these things.

I just scanned over the question quickly….
To answer this…Adobe introduced a companion product called Prelude…
as part of the suite…
you can think of it a bit like Log and Transfer….
I’m not really a power user of Prelude…
Paul Neumann here on the forum seems to be one the strongest proponents of it.
But it should help you with complete transfer, partial transfer, and even pre logging and off line cutting of material before you even hit PPro….
It runs separate from Premiere, so you don’t have to tie up an editor just for prep.

I have not. Other than Photoshop and After Effects I’m new to most Adobe tools. I will definitely be looking into it. Thanks.
I work in a government shop, so our install of CC is incomplete due to some issues around buying software on subscription models..don’t get me started. 🙂
Whenever we want a new software or update we need to bring in the IT people, which irks me since it has always been my area before. I will learn more and see if this would justify summoning the people of the IT. 🙂

So what do you see when you look at the card through Media Browser?
