I”ve already posted this to the AutoDuck Forum and so far have received no feedback. Hopefully, someone here can help.

Okay, I have my FCP, my AE and my Pro Import AE 3.0 Duck.
I have my video footage about a Photographer.

First, I start with an interview about him and his background. I’m editing away in FCP, so far, makes sense.
I get to the part where he gives Photography Tips. I want to cut away to an Type Animation that says, “PHOTO TIP 1” that I create in AE. Then I come back to him talking about the TIP in FCP.

How should I do this? Edit the first part in FCP, then create the type animation in AE and output it and put it in FCP? But in the end I want to do a color correct with the whole thing using the DUCK to bring it into AE. Also, want about sound? I’m worried about doing too much in AE and then bring it back to FCP and the sound is off.

Anyway, I suppose you can tell I’m confused. This is one aspect that I never see articles about. Any help with workflow issues would be appreciated.

i think you’ve pretty much got it. I’d make the duck now, open it up in AE and do your text animations. Then maybe just render out these sections and import them back into FCP. If you don’t have a distinct edit point just put the timecode into the filename. For example I name my files 034512_text.mov – so when I re-import it I know it goes at exactly 3minutes, 45seconds and 12 frames.

Then if you make edit changes before the final colour grade, just make another duck and re-import it. You can still use the text animations that you made previously.

Don’t do any audio in AE, just render out without audio and as long as you haven’t changed any of the timing it should all be sweet!
