Workflow clarification / Nested Sequences / Slow Motion Strobing
Hi,
I have a very large proejct I recently completed on FCP 4.5. Because of the size of the project, I created a number of sequences nested into a main sequence. As I worked on the project, I discovered some problems with fow FCP handles nested sequences and would probably not use them again for this type of project. The problem I encountered was with old render files not being refreshed when I updated audio or video effects. After thoroughly searching the FCP board, I determined that this is a known issue.
As a workaround, I exported each of the sequences as Quick Time Movies, re-imported them and replaced the nests in the master sequence. If I do it this way, is there any quality loss in the material that was exported to Quick Time and then re-imported? My original source footage is mini-DV.Also, I included several clips where I used slow motion. Up to now, I’ve viewed it on my TV after exporting to Compressor and burning to DVD in DVD Studio Pro and I don’t recall major strobing problems. There is some minor slo-mo strobing, but it seems worse now that I printed to tape (DV) and viewed the tape on the same TV. Any idea why? I thought since DV compresses less than DVD that it would look better.
If you can give me any useful information about either of these issues, i’d be most appreciative.
Thanks!
Michael
