Hi All. I’ve been asked to donate my time to editing a feature length documentary that will be shot on the RED. The producer sent me specs on a refurbished mac that they want to purchase to post on to see if it is adequate for the job. I’ve never edited anything this long shot on the RED so I have lots of questions that I was hoping I could get some help on.
First off – is this system capable of handling an edit of this kind? Borderline? If not, (given budget constraints)what should I be asking for?
Refurbished Mac Pro 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
One 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem” processor
    6GB (3x2GB) of 1066MHz DDR3 ECC memory
    1TB Serial ATA 3Gb/s 7200 rpm
    Two 18x SuperDrives (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
ATI Radeon HD 4870 with 512MB GDDR5 memory

The second part of the question probably deserves it’s own thread, but can someone walk me through the workflow for dealing with RED footage in the context of a long form project? I don’t know what the final delivery will be, and I doubt anyone can tell me other than to expect all possibilities.
Thanks so much for your help – Hannah
