Is there an advantage, from a quality standpoint, in recording direct from your camera to your hard drive through the capture screen in PP?
(This as opposed to going to tape on my mini-dv cam first)
I am getting files this way which average about 5 minutes per gig.
As I have been asked to start shooting outside of the office is the added hassle of having my laptop tied to my camera really going to be worth the extra effort?

Yes I do save time in eliminating the dump to disk portion of the workflow but I am more concerned about quality at this time.

I know I should just spring for an HD camera but like many other people the more I research a potential purchase the more confused I am.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I can’t think of any advantages in the standard definition world of DV. There are advantages to using Component outputs of HDV cameras that way, but once DV goes through the firewire, it is compressed. And it looks better than trying to use composite ports.
