workaround for continuing to use Final Cut Pro Studio?
Hi all,
Dennis here. I’m a photographer/videographer and, these days, I’ve had to add several other slashes in order to remain solvent in a smaller market ha ha.
I have been working on a 2008 Mac Pro tower with OS 10.6.8 and OS Yosemite on occasion, until very recently when I upgraded to a 2017 iMac running Mojave.
The transition in workflow has been a lot of work and not cheap ( upgrading to must have software that will run on Mojave like Photoshop and Capture One Pro ).
I have been working with Final Cut Studio software for a number of years and, in this transition, would like to continue using it without the cost and learning curve of moving to Final Cut Pro X or Premiere. Obviously this has been a long time issue for videographers/filmmakers/editors who have used FCP Studio for years.
I’m at the point now that I wouldn’t be embarrassed if this is a dumb question or dumb idea for workaround. I’m not really a mac tech guru but have done some amount of research online about this. Creative Cow has always been my go to source for all things video related and I’ve received many great answers here.
My question is, will a 2017 iMac running OS Mojave boot up from an external boot drive running Mac OS Sierra ( the last Mac OS that supports Final Cut Studio )?
If so, couldn’t I load the FCP Studio software onto that bootable drive and run it ‘remotely’?Here is a list of Mac computers that supposedly will run on Sierra according to OSXdaily.com.
- MacBook Pro (2010 and later)
- MacBook Air (2010 and later)
- Mac Mini (2010 and later)
- Mac Pro (2010 and later)
- MacBook (Late 2009 and later)
- iMac (Late 2009 and later)
(the above list posted on Jun 14, 2016)
Thanks.
Dennis
