    Hi everyone.

I’m working on a documentary which needs to be delivered on a D5 master tape, 1080p, 23.98 fps. We will be shooting with the Panasonic HVX200 using 720p.

I know the camera is designed to work well w/ FCP but I’m wondering if FCP can lay back the edited master to a D5 machine w/ the required 1080p format.

If not, should I consider laying back to whatever I can and then do a dub “upconvert”? I was told in another forum that the upconvert is no issue if everything is acquired at 23.98 fps (thanks!).

Anyway, I hope this makes sense. Any shared experience or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Absolutely. D5, HDCAM, HDCAM SR…1080p 23.98 or 1080i 59.94…and the 720p formats as well. All you need is a capture card (AJA Kona 3, Kona LH, Decklink Extreme HD) and a high speed drive RAID (Fibrechannel, SATA Raid) and FCP can do just about anything.

If you don’t want to buy all the equipment, or you can’t find a FCP post facility to do it for you, you can output to DVCPRO HD tape and have that upconverted. But you’d need to have it done at a place that has a Terranex box for a proper upconvert.
