I just purchased a Canon 300 XF 300 which utilizes flash cards and would like to know if I can directly transfer the files from the card to a Hard Drive using a card reader – rather than going through a final cut on my computer. I just realize I do not have a lot of Hard Drive space on my computer – so it might be problematic on the set and I don’t want to take any chances.

Can someone connect me to a place where I can learn more about work flows with cards and the best way to deal with this new media?

Just transfer the folder containing ALL the files to a hard drive from your CF cards. No need to go through FCP. Use Log & transfer in FCP to ingest your selected clips. Would also suggest making a backup of your orininal camera cards to bluray or another drive.
