Women’s Conference Opener
I’m recreating an iPod commercial for a Christian Women’s Conference. No, it’s not the silhouette commercial you see everywhere on everything…

I’ve studied the clip up and down. Imported it into FCP and watched it frame by frame. I see that there’s a generic wipe on most of the transitions. But there’s more to it than that. I see that the talent it strategically moving there body as to accommodate the process as well as a morph to the entire shape of the figure to fit under the new layer. But my question is: What do you see going on here? Are the talent wearing green fitted shirts to be keyed out in post (As you see, the iPod cable crosses over both shots in some frames). Or was it meticulously edited frame by frame in PS? Does anybody know of the production company that creates these videos for apple? I understand the general concept to create it…but there’s so minute details that really sell the effect that I cannot figure out. Any help would be GRACIOUSLY appreciated!
To let you know what I’m trying to generate… Here’s the rundown:
A woman will be standing in frame (Shoulder to knee) of a 5D shot in portrait. She will be taking clothes off, layer-by-layer to eventually reveal merely her silhouette. The concept is that each layer is a new identity (ie. teacher, mother, wife, business woman, student, nurse, soldier, etc). And each, when stripped away, all come down to one identity being in Jesus. This video will be edited and played back on 5 separate 52inch flat screen televisions in portrait, each with a different woman standing behind them. Showing each woman going through the transition. Its a complex process, but I truly think I may be over thinking it. I’m shooting on wednesday with a week to edit 30-45sec of footage.

It’s called compositing. A little bit of rotoscoping, scaling, rotation and tracking to tie each clip together. Each person is wearing their own cord, it’s not the same cord. Green screen is not necessary. For a compositor, it’s not difficult to do this; it will take time to do, but it’s not ground breaking. In order for it to happen you must first understand how to do it, then shoot it properly so that you will have what you need to composite it correctly.
You should review Andrew Kramer’s tutorials to watch a pro compositor at work. That will help develop your conception of how they did this. Probably all of these which review the same concepts with different applications:
