I started my experience with Premier Pro on CS4 and now on to CS5 and I have one major complaint. Encoding out to WMV start out horrible. The first few frames of a WMV (no matter what) look like a minimum quality jpeg….blocky & awful. If there is a camera move at the beginning (one project faded up on a camera pullback) then it only lasts a second. But the initial look is a shocker.

Now I have an underwater scene from a drillship to BOP at the sea floor (I do 3D animation by the way) so the opening scene is a subtle water column dark blue gradient. The first 20 seconds look horrific. Even lights fading up on a darkened BOP on the sea floor do not clean the image up (not enough screen change to kick the encoder into gear). When the camera starts moving up to the drillship, it quickly clears up and the rest of the video is stunningly clean and crisp.

This blows as WMV is my format of choice for client previews and final output when the client goes for it.

It’s like the WMV encoder ignores the quality specs I set up and doesn’t get it together until the scene changes enough for it to straighten up and fly right.

Has to be a bug. Please fix this Adobe!!!
