Wispy Text in AE

I have an idea to create a wispy text effect where a layer of smoke come into the screen, transforms into a word, then the word is blown apart by the wind as a fade out.

Are there any tutorials for such effect? Or are there any idea how to achieve this in AE? I am working on 6.5 Pro and would like to do this without special plug-ins. That said, I would be willing to purchase a good plug-in if it will take me where I need to go with this effect.

Right now, my thoughts are using a fractal, animated and scaled out in the X. It’s just not hitting the mark for me.

here’s one that may get you started. You will have to replace some of the old plug-ins mentioned in the tutorial with ones that are now included.
