WIreless microphone receiver attachment to EX-1

I have the Senn. 300 series and I just use the belt clip on the receiver to attach it to the strap on the lens. The 500 is bigger though.

We used gaffers tape and mounted the receiver to the middle base of the dolly and used a 6′ or 10′ xlr cord to connect to the camera depending on how high we had the camera. Then ran an extension cord to the nearest outlet and covered it. Hope that helps.

That’s a real good idea. I’m going to try one of the brackets by Bracket 1 (https://www.bracket1.com/). Not cheap, but it looks pretty solid. I’ll report back to the forum.

This is what I use for my EX1R. The base plate gives much needed stability and strength to the bottom of the camera and the accessory piece out the side is wonderful for things like a wireless receiver. The machining on all pieces is stellar.

Hi, I see that your camera is on a rolling tripod. Is the subject moving?

I’m not sure why you’d use that particular receiver (Senn EW-500).
Isn’t that an 8 x 8 inch, 2 plus pounds unit? I wouldn’t attach anything like that to an EX1.

Do your dolly wheels have an accessory plate in the middle? If they are heavy duty dolly wheels you can probably attach an accessory plate and then place the receiver on the plate and use longer audio cable. Also, if the camera isn’t moving, (or not moving much), you cam place the receiver on solid ground and use a longer (20’…) audio cable… Or rig a sturdy bag to saddle the tripod that will carry the receiver.

Of course, you can just go with a Sennheiser G3 ENG system if you want to attach the receiver to your camera, (I attach audio receivers to the rear shoe on the EX1).

Subject will will lecturing in front of a large crowd and will walk about and write on a whiteboard while he speaks. I actually thought of using a wired system, but the room will be crowded and large.

I’ll use a small lav mic attached to a Senn wireless transmitter. The Senn receiver is not the model you mentioned, but rather the Senn EK 500 which is quite small (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sennheiser-EK500-Beltpack-Receiver-For-Sennheiser-Wireless-Microphone-System-VG-/200804160193?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec0dc52c1#ht_2213wt_1156). Looks like an earlier edition to the Senn G3 system you mentioned

I’ve subsequently purchased the Bracket 1 unit I mentioned earlier (https://bracket1.com/brackets.php) along with their adapter for the Senn receiver (https://bracket1.com/adapters.php#06). Both appear well made.

if you like to be shoulder mounted the above unit works very well. i also have an Anton Bauer back on that unit and for the wireless mic receiver I attached one of these:

I don’t know if you use the rear shoe mount on the EX1R for anything else, but if not then you can easily attach your Sennheise G3 receiver to the shoe mount as your Senn. kit should have come with that shoe mounting accessory, (it attaches to the receiver with the metal belt clip). i do this when I’m not using the DM Accessories shoulder mount unit.

Hey Dean,

I really like the shoulder mount kit you referenced. I already use one by Varizoom (https://www.varizoom.com/product-p/vzdvmediarig.htm). Love the rig combined with a remote zoom control (https://www.varizoom.com/product-p/vzrockex.htm), but as you can see, your recommended gear is significantly less money. I purchased mine at a discount after last year’s NAB.

Unfortunately, the Varizoom rig doesn’t have a good accessory mount for the Sennheiser wireless receiver. The one by BEC looks great, plus it has a very reasonable price. My Bracket1 bracket will do the job, but at a significantly higher cost ($140 before shipping and tax).
