Wirecast vs MediaSite
Hi all. I am a Telestream fan but I live in Madison WI where Sonic Foundry has its headquarters. Seems like the live web streaming market here is wide open. Also seems that Media Site has a real jump on the live event streaming. Solid software/hardware package.
So, can Wirecast compete with MediaSite? Are they different products serving different purposes? I’m looking for insights from anyone who has used both and who can articulate if they think they exist in the same user market or if they differ greatly etc.

MediaSite seems similar to Adobe Communicator. They seem to be geared towards a “GoToMeeting” type experience. In other words conference heavy on PowerPoint for example. Although it’s tough to discern from their site but in their player info they mention Silverlight so it may be limited to Windows Media.
Wirecast is a software based live production switcher with built in encoder capable of Flash, Quicktime (and Windows Media with the Windows version of Wirecast) that can encode to multiple bit rates and send to multiple servers. In other words one might have a high a low bit rate to Flash server, a high a low bit rate to Quicktime server, recording to a hard drive in any format such as Apple ProRes or H.264 Quicktime for example.
Wirecast can do live chroma key, compositing (think 3 channel ADO) with title, logo, background, each camera input both video and audio for multicam for example. In addition it has Desktop presenter which can take a screen or any program on a screen from any number of computers (and can be more than one and it can be either OS) sent to Wirecast over LAN as additional “camera like” inputs.
