I just took a toy airplane, tied some thread to it and hung it from a stick. Outside, I made absurd dogfighting noises as I swung the thing around in front of my camera. Done.
In AE, here’s the removal technique I used:
Duplicate the footage, placing the duped footage layer over the original footage layer. Select the dupe, and apply a two-point mask over each wire. Once you’ve masked all the wires, apply the render>stroke effect, set to all masks, and set the stroke to “reveal original” (I think that’s the wording). You might need to animate the masks (mask shape parameter) to follow the wires.
Now here’s the trick: shift the duped layer one or two frames in time. The strokes will reveal the parts of the duped footage layer where the wire isn’t there yet, or has already passed by. These non-wired bits will be covering up the wires in the original footage layer below.
Or, you could try the CC wire removal effect (under the keying menu?) in AE. I haven’t tried it yet.
