I was asked to animate this logo of a ribbon so it flys around a globe like effect. I’m not stranger to after effects but it’s been a while since i’ve used it. I was looking at image wipe but wasn’t giving me the full effect i wanted. Should i just be making a path and have a mask travel over it? The thing is that there are going to be other ribbons intersecting. Are there any plugins that would make this easier?

Here is an example of one of the ribbons

I would suggest breaking the ribbons into layers in Photoshop or whatever app you’re creating them in, with the front of the ribbon on one layer and the back where it curls around on another layer. Then, in AE, you could either use the Stroke effect set to “reveal original image” or just use masks. Stroke might be easier but there’s a size limit to the stroke and you’re also stuck with a round leading edge for the reveal, which might not be ideal for this.
