I just brought a DELL pc from Ebay that came pre-installed with Windows XP Home (SP2) and I just upgraded it to Windows XP Pro (SP2 or SP2a im not sure). Now my question is do I need to do a clean install of Windows XP Pro in order for Premiere Pro 2.0 to work properly (which I will be receiving on March 15th).

You shouldn’t need a clean install to install Premiere Pro or the Production Studio.

There’s no reason to even go with XP-PRO. The only difference between Home and Pro are internet security options. Other than that…the’re the same. Log on to http://www.videoguys.com and download the Windows XP Tweaks. This is where you make Windows become extrememly stable for video editing. Be sure to back-up your system because some tweaks involve register entry and modifications. I have two editing machines with Home and one that came with Pro and the Home works just as well. Besides, you shouldn’t even consider having an editing machine hooked to the internet at all. Want to surf the net and get your e-mails to? Get a cheapo e-machine. Your video editing machines should stay off line because of virus infections, spyware…etc. Then you have to run anti-virus and spyware software and that my friend does nothing but take up preciuos resources. Your machine should also be stipped of all office working software, help options, and other crap you will not use in Video Editing. Again, use that cheapo e-machine for Word, publisher, power-point…etc. Have fun.

Wow. Mr. Sareen you have been a great help to me so far, I just wished I checked for your response BEFORE I tried to do a Clean Install by myself :o(. 1st. After I already installed Windows XP Pro SP2 as an upgrade from XP Home SP2, i then tried to do a clean install, convinced that i was going to need a clean install for PP2.0 to work properly (should of checked here first!)

In the process of trying to do that, an error returned saying that it could not find my hard drive, and uninstall or reinstall any new hard drive drivers (or something similiar) so i just hit F3 to restart my computer. and now after I restarted it everytime I turn on my PC it gives me two options from a “DOS-Like” Screen: “Windows XP” or “Windows XP Set Up” and if I dont choose one in 5 seconds it automatically goes to “Windows XP Set Up” and (from my guess) tries to “Install” Windows Xp again…and then it goes through its “motions” just to arrive BACK at that screen that displays the “Error” that it can not find my hard drive.

Now if I select “Windows XP” from the “DOS-Like” Screen my PC loads up as normal and everything seems to function properly. My question is now this. 1.) What part of this CreativeCow/Calf network do I place this follow up question OR 2.) What Website or Forum would this question be best suited for

    P.S.
You guys should start a “Take Me To Lunch” fund. If a person feel as though that you were extremely helpful in answering a question and the feel compelled to show you their appreciation than why not send you $5.00 (PayPal) or something so that you could get a small lunch on them. it DONT have to be $5.00 and they DONT have to do it if they dont want to, but i think it would be a nice getsture just to show you guys that we appreciate everything that you guys do. :0)

    Hi,
When presented with the two choices during boot, select Windows XP Pro. Once in Windows do the following:

    1. Start > Run > msconfig
    2. Select the boot.ini TAB
    3. Click on Check All Boot Paths
    4. Restart

    Problem gone!

Once Again I should of read here before I went on to do other things! ARRRGGH i just paid Geek Squad $70 to install windows again and get rid of that message! I cant believe it! I knew those GEEKS was giving the me the run around! But its all ok! Now I have another question. Once again if you guys can refer to me another board/forum where this question would be best suited, than please let me know.

1.) I am having GeekSquad install 4 Gigs of Ram, a firewire card, a FX540 video card, a seagate 300 gig hardrive. now they told me that I needed to upgrade my power supply from a 375W to a 430W so that it will have enough power to run everything..was this neccessary? or did they get me to spend more money to help their BestBuy Commissions?

2.) is everything that I am getting installed enough for Premiere Pro 2.0?
