  Windows Server for Promise VTrak & Tiger Technology Tiger Store

  Hello,

  We’re about to migrate from MetaSAN to Tiger Store which will require a server upgrade for us.

  We’re a small shop running a SAN environment with 3 client workstations and 1 server which is the master. Currently, the workstations & server are connected to a Promise VTrak e310f via fibre using a QLogic 4G switch, and to an Apple XServe via ethernet using a Netgear gigabit switch.

  It seems Tiger Store requires NTFS volumes and metadata controller meeting the following specs:

  -PC with 1.8-GHz 64-bit (x64) processor.
  -64-bit Microsoft Windows® 7/Server 2008 R2/Windows® 8/Server 2012/Server 2012 R2.
  -2 GB of physical RAM at least.
  -200 MB of available hard-disk space for installation.
  -Network LAN connection (1 Gb at least).
  -Fibre Channel or 1/10 GbE card for connection to the storage.

  Like I said we’re a small shop and we’re implementing a series of other upgrades, so money is most certainly an object here. That said, does anyone have any recommendations for a good Windows machine to use in our setup?

  Our existing ATTO Fibre Channel HBA can be used in the Windows server via PCI. I’ve been able to find very inexpensive Dell PowerEdge models that meet the requirements above, but I don’t want to get something that isn’t up to the task. Been looking at the PowerEdge T320 tower server, and PowerEdge T110 II tower server. Also looking at the HP ProLiant series for options.

  I would be most grateful for any feedback/suggestions.
