I film on an island in the third world. Whether inside or outside, wind, waves, un-tuned car noise, you name it, the sound challenges are tough when using a boom/shotgun mic setup. I have a few questions that maybe someone could help me with.

First, in FCPX, I have been experimenting quite a bit with trying to reduce the wind noise when I have dialogue to deal with. I have been using the Channel EQ to try this, but any help that anyone can give me would be appreciated.

I know this isn’t the right forum, but since I am talking about sound and wind issues here I have another question. I am about to buy a wireless lavaliere mic in order to try to mitigate some of my sound issues, should I get a cardioid lavaliere or an omnidirectional lavaliere? I am shooting feature films in the Marshallese language for the most part, many times beside the ocean with a lot of wind, boat sounds, screaming kids, barking dogs, misc. construction work, etc.

    Thanks.

I use omni laws most of the time. I have a very good sennheiser directional law as well (expensive) I use that a lot if I can poit the lav at some ones mouth. Like on the bottom of a baseball cap visor, your current head dress would not work as well for this.

I also really like using the RyKote under covers to cut wind noise and to hide the lavs. You can be very creative with these.
