my experience is that CS3 will run will on WinXP but should be run on a clean re-install of the OS. I had a sluggish system and found a huge difference after doing a clean install of windows – SP2. premiere and encore both work much better. I have the CS4 suite on a new vista business 64 Dell T3400 with Quadro FX1700 and it works. of the production suite programs only photoshop CS4 does OK on a less-than-approved system.

    Thanks Charlie!

I used to load freight trains by hand in Jersey City.

    Take care.

I have been running a succesful video production company for the last 9 years and I base all my editing work on PCs all running Adobe products and others. I use windows XP and have threee edit bays. My computers usually have Premiere and after effects open and running at the same time and I have to say that it works very well. All my PCs have adecuate RAM and good Intel processors. No problem. I have to admit that the Apple machines run very well but for my part of the world they are still quite expensive especially parts and service. I produce everything from a 30 sec spot to a Corporate video to a weekly 30 min TV show.

    Frank,

    Hi, thanks, very encouraging.

It was suggested that I add the 3 GB switch to my boot.ini file to help CS3 run better.

Do you have this switch in your boot.ini file? Just curious.

    Thanks again.

I hate to sound preachy, but my mac pro dual quad core with final cut crashed 3 times this morning with a client in the room. I finished the job a pc using vegas 9. No platform or editing system is perfect.

    Ken,

Thanks for sharing that. This is all very educating for me.

Have you figured out why so many problems as of a sudden?

If you do narrow it down, it would be helpful to hear how it was resolved.

    Thanks again.

I know this thread is old, but I just wanted to jump to the (senselessly-wasted) defense of the Matrox RT2000. I custom-built a system around the RT2000 in 2001 based on Matrox’s approved configurations/components, and had rock-solid performance from it – from the original P3/450 to a different (approved) mobo with dual P3/733’s – it was solid with Premiere 6.0 and After Effects 5.0 & 5.5. I still have it if anyone wants to buy it! (half-kidding) 😉
