You can always try it.
I would clone both computers, in case it doesn’t work, you can get your G5 back.

I assume you have 2 licenses for FCS2, making what your suggesting legal.

I would say probably not very well. Too many architectural differences in those machines. I wouldn’t try it. Besides, by the time you clone the drive you could have installed most of it from scratch.

Absolutely. I am running it on a Dual 2.0 G5. Everything but Color. Motion is a little slow but not unworkable.

Definitely NOT with 10.4, maybe with 10.5.

Like what was stated on another part of the thread there are some BIG differences with the intel and PPC build of the OS. In 10.4 they were completely different builds and a Intel one will NOT work on a PPC. 10.5 is supposably universal so it may work. But a clean install is always safe.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

Short answer: no.

Like others have mentioned, the build differences between PPC and Intel will pose a problem but the primary problem will be driver differences. The pre-installed OS software on your Mac Pro will only have drivers for that particular Mac Pro. Not a previous generation Mac Pro nor a G5. That is why the pre-installed OS (and also the discs) that came with your computer will only work with that computer and not, say, an intel iMac or a G5 or any other computer. Only a retail version of Leopard has all of the drivers for all of Apple’s machines.

You’ll want to do a clean install of the operating system on the G5 then use the Migration Assistant to move your programs and settings and files to the new system. You should have better luck this way.

You really shouldn’t use Migration Assistant for pro apps. You really should install from the original install discs.

Just to add to all the other sage advice .. no, even if the 2 macs were identical. The FCS apps serialise themselves to the hardware. If you take a boot drive from one mac and place it another identical mac then FCP would not run in that mac without reinstalling/reserialising.
