Will this system work? Please
Hello everybody,
I am looking at putting together a system that needs to be able to do the following:
– play out to Betacam SP/PAL. It has to be able to do frame-accurate inserts! (This is extremely important)
– For short segments (a couple of minutes) I want to do live voice-over recording. The speaker should be able to see the audio and video while recording his voice.
– We use a lot of after effects and similar software.
– We need uncompressed SDI and maybe a compressed format for later batch digitizing.
– Most of our projects are rather short. ( < 5 minutes ) So, I was thinking of using a Decklink card together with Premiere Pro 2.0. Will this work (flawlessly)? Anything I should consider when buying this hardware? Things to be aware of? Has anybody got a similar setup? Thank you for all inputs!! H.m. -

Yes this should be frame accurate when performing an insert edit.
Each installation requires the adjustment of the frame offset feature in Premiere – Once done you should be spot on.System requirements and recommended hardware for Windows.

You CAN’T do live voice over thru decklink cards on PPro 2 because they dont support asio input. ( even in audio for video dedicated software like Nuendo you can’t do this only with DL cards) You have to put another audio only asio compatible card in your machine to achive that with DL cards. And this new card must have some sort of sink input ( BlackBurst or WordClock derived from same BB that come to your BetaSP machine and DL Card )
But you can accurately frame capture audio and video and export from timeline, and also make audio insert only for compressed and uncompressed formats. I am asking BMD to enable this future but they say that this is not possible for now. You must capture always thru PPro Capture interface and video signal must always be present at your DL input.
I have 3 Nuendo audio suites, (thats what we do every day) and they all have an old Miro DC30 card with dedicated audio cards from Nuendo RME Multiface. So when I need voice over I capture video from DL card ( or Betacam)to Miro MjpegDC30 and do voice over and mix. There is no cheap and simple solution for this.
