  • Will Resolve support any video file format?

    Hi there
I apologise for what is essentially a bit of a noob question. We have yet to book a colourist for a video we’ve shot that can answer this question for us.

I’m a director and I also do some simple VFX. The edit of my current video features composites made of up to three plates, a background (VFX) a foreground (Live action) and a top layer for lightwrap.

If I lay out my plates in Premiere, with the correct blending modes, will resolve support any file format I choose to use? I ask because in the past we’ve only used ProRes 4444 with alpha channel, however with my current plates they are all either in lossless animations (MOV) or PNG sequences, due to the fact that my PC workstation cannot render ProRes being an Apple format.

So essentially my question is: if I lay out my edit with PNG sequences or animations, will they go into Resolve OK?

    Thanks a lot
    Kim

[Kim Taylor] “f I lay out my edit with PNG sequences or animations”

It should work. Resolve will support imbedded alpha channels and I use png stills often.

If possible always test the workflow before executing when in new territory.

It will help to avoid many future problems.
