Its not directly to MC. You can capture DNxHD files using the Matrox Vetura software. You would then need to brink it into MC.

In addition, it’s DNxHD .mov -not in an MXF wrapper. Not a huge issue, but still not a seamless workflow at all.

And there is no deck control…and thus no timecode. And as we know, timecode is essential.

The MXO2 Mini is the only one that works with MC5…allowing for external monitoring. But, it doesn’t have RS-422, nor SDI…nor balanced audio I/O. You can get the MXO2…the main one, but it doesn’t work with MC5 for external monitoring…only the Mini does. And even if you used it just to capture, the Vetura software doesn’t allow for deck control.

However with the current version HD Log for Mac or windows you actually can capture uncompressed, Pro res or avid DNX HD files with a Matrox, Kona or BM card with timecode. It works pretty well with importing files into FCP. I will capture a file and take it home to test it on my avid system.

Well, as we can see Avid is moving apart from Software locked to his Hardware. First was a half step Media Composer and MXO2 Mini in April. Than Pro Tools 9 – now completely independent on its hardware. Last Avid DS 10.5 which is impossible to run on Avids own DX harware and you have to use Aja Kona 3.

I feel and I think, the next step (the Second Halfstep) will be completely independent Media Composer in 2011 as we have seen in 2010 with pro tools. And this new Matrox MXO2 shows us that company do work hard for that future.
Last version of MC5 is now able to capture to DNxHD on i7/W7 laptop using the Mojo DX.
I guess the MC 5.5. or 6 will enable capture to DNxHD via any Aja/BM/Matrox Hw and it will depend just on power of your computer.

I think so. Pro tools are now HW independent. Avid DS 10.5 works with Kona 3. I guess in April 2011, or no later than August there will be a release of Media Composer 5.5 or 6 that will works natively with MXO2 and other HW (Aja) too.

Now you can mount DNxHD quicktime from Matrox MXO2 via AMA
