  • Will Kona 3 convert 1080i footage to 720P footage on capture ?

I need to capture and cut footage from the Panasonic AG-HSC1U AVCHD camera in with DVCPRO-HD 720P/N. I’m pretty sure this camera only shoots 1080i.

With the Convergent Design “HD-Connect MI” I can convert the HDMI/1080i signal to HD-SDI/1080i. Then, with Kona 3, capture (and Convert?) that 1080i HD-SDI signal to 720p on the fly ? I want to avoid any transcoding if it’s possible.

I think this will work? Can anyone confirm? : )

    thanks in advance.

Yes, it does this on the fly during Capture in realtime. We do this all the time and also in the reverse. Laying off 720p in 1080i in realtime.

What Walter says, but be careful. You say you need to capture in PN, what frame rate? the ioHD will take your 1080i29.97 and make it 720p60. It will not convert to 24pN or 30pN.

That camera only shoots interlaced, not progressive. So I’m not sure you will be able to extract a good 24P image from that…as there is no cadence to deal with.
