    Hi.

I’m experiencing dropped frames alot on two machines after we installed Final Cut studio 2.

The main machine is a dual 2 ghz Power mac with 3,5 gb ram.
This machine had a new harddrive installed before we installed final cut studio 2.

I’ve taken some screen captures of information about the machine: (in Norwegian – sorry)

    Final cut playback options:

and last a screen capture with the error.

The project is DV-anamorphic and the sequence, project and clip settings match.

The dropped frames occur several times per day, and it doesn’t matter if the sequence has lots of effects in it or if it’s just plain video and audio.

There is no effects/Distort/attributes added to any of the video or audio clips.

The second machine is a Macbook Pro Dual 2ghz with 2gb ram, 100gb (7200) harddrive.

At work we have 4 licensed FCS2.

Both of these machines have the same FCS2 License installed. (using the same serial number)
This is because one of the machines is located at work, and the other one is at home/on the road. They are never used at the same time.

The Scratch disc is on an external drive. It’s connected through a 3 meter long fw800 cable.
And the discs have more than enough available space on them.

There is no Blackmagic, Kona or any other computer cards installed.

The projects works fine on other computers. And the discs are working fine. (Checked and repaired with disctools and Discwarrior)

There is no difference to weither the project is big or just a couple of clips.

Here’s a list of what has been tried so far…
    – Trashed prefs.
    – Used FCP Rescue
    – Repaired disc rights on the computerdrive
    – Checked project for wierd letters such as

    Hey there,

Wow that was a thorough post! You were very specific about everything, and that helps.

It honestly sounds to me like you’ve tried most of everything that I would suggest you try to try to figure out the problem short of actually reinstalling the software. I don’t think the problem has anything to do with the specific license that you’re working with – that should effect performance one way or the other. You’ve trashed your prefs already, so no point in trying that again.

At this point I would probably suggest doing a complete reinstall of the software. If that doesn’t help you might need to think about doing a fresh install of the OS and then reinstall the software fresh. Those might seem like drastic measures, but it’s usually a last case scenario for diagnosing the problem. You’re computers should clearly be fast enough for DV.

    Hi.

the computer at work had a clean install of OSX when installing the new drive and FCS2.

My personal Macbook Pro didn’t at the time, but was about 5 months old.

Do you think there could be any issue with the discbrn? I’ve had Xbox games that have been messed up because of the burn. Some of the files were corrupt. Do you think it could be the same kind of problem?

If so.. I would guess it’s like a 1 to a million chance… But hey? I guess they’ve sold at least a million copies?
