Hello, quick question here on export settings. I cut a trailer that needs to be delivered to the distributor on digibeta, and I just need some clarification on how to set up the quicktime.

    I’ve been asked for:

    “TRAILER ELEMENTS (preferably 16×9)
    DIGIBETA NTSC
    DIGIBETA PAL
(Digibeta sound: Stereo Dialogue on Channels 1&2; Stereo M&E on 3&4)”

I’m not sure whether to export for 720×486 anamorphic or to export at 854×486.

    Thanks again for your help!

    [Adam Sonnenfeld] “720×486 anamorphic”

That’s it as that’s the pixel aspect ratio that will go to tape.

If your sequence is correctly set to NTSC 16:9 then it is 720 x 486 anamorphic. The exported quicktime file should be “use current settings” if it is going to be transferred to digibeta.

Okay. right now my sequence is 1080p Prores at 23.98.

Can I run the sequence through compressor, or would you recommend that I drop the cut into an NTSC timeline?

I presume you are making the QT file to take to a facility that does the digi beta for you. I would recommend calling them. If they have a Kona card or other real time hardware down converter, then they may prefer to run the HD file through their down converter to digi beta.

I experimented with a Sony HDCam as downconverter hardware with dropping a 1080 sequence into an SD timeline and rendering. The render took forever and was softer than the hardware. I haven’t compared Compressor to the sequence render but I am sold on hardware becasue it is quicker and looks better in my experience.
