I have some footage that when I add it to the timeline, it automatically makes it letterbox. I had put widescreen fx on it at one time and tried to remove the effect by unclicking the box in the filters tab. However, this won’t go away. I even tried recapturing the footage and when I drag it to the timeline the widescreen matte appears. How can I get it back to normal?

I would eventually like to make a widescreen version but thought I would make a normal cut first and save it and then go back in and add a widescreen matte to the entire project. Does that make sense?

Perhaps anamorphic is selected for your sequence (timeline).

Find the name of your timeline / sequence (upper left hand tab shape in timeline). Find this sequence in the browser window. Scroll across the information columns for this sequence in the browser, and see if anamorphic column has a check mark. Uncheck it.

Or from timeline press command zero to look at the sequence settings, and see if Anamorphic 16:9 is selected there. This is the same as sequence menu, then settings.

That was it! I unchecked the anamorphic box and it got rid of the letterbox. However, in the viewer it looks like unsqueezed anamorphic and the “fit to window” comes up 104%. I unchecked the “show as sq. pixels” and it looks ok. Is this right?

Any idea how the anamorphic column got checked in the browser?

    Thanks for your help.
