I looked at other topics, but didn’t see one with my specific question. Feel welcome to redirect me. I also don’t have time to skim several threads only to see that they don’t directly answer my concern.

I created an animation in AE CS3. I have to output to both 16:3 and 4:3, North America (NTSC).

My After Effects’ Comp Settings are as follows

    Preset DVCPRO HD 1080 29.97
    W: 1280
    H: 1080
    Aspect Ratio: 32:27

Pixel Aspect Ratio: DVCPRO HD 1080 (1.5)
    Frame Aspect Ratio: 16:9
    Frame Rate: 29.97

When I go to export it

Composition – Add to Render Queue

Output Module: Left as Default with an Animation Video Output

    Result: Square Video

Please Let me know if there are other settings. Do I have to re-do my creative work in a different Aspect Ratio if I change the AR of the comp?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if this specific question has been covered.

Okay, so I got help. This is for anyone else having this problem.

I set my Comp settings to 1920×1080 manually instead of using one of the drop-down menus.

I made sure that my pixel Aspect Ratio was on Square Pixels (it was not before)

I toggled my Pixel AR Correction button in AE

Also, I had to make sure that my graphics had a square Pixel AR – they did not before.

Is it because your computer screen has square pixels and the video your exporting has rectangle pixels?

Why not change your comp settings to HDTV 1080 29.97. It uses square pixels. What you see is what you get. Make it 4:3 safe, and you can crop it from 16:9 to 4:3 without changing anything.
