In FCP7 I was able to create a sequence at 1920 x 816 and then export natively. I can not change the aspect ration in FCPX to an unnative ratio.

I simply want to end up with an 1920 x 816 mov for upload onto vimeo (who handles it like a champ). Very basic question that I’m sure apple handled in FCPX or compressor. If not then who is working for that company?

Is your source footage 1920×1080? If so have a look at my 2.35:1 tool, Cinemascope Toolkit:

This might help. It’s sort of a work around, but seems to get the job done. Just tried it myself and it works great.

Paul, does the tool allow a simple change to the modern widescreen aspect ratio of approximately 2.39:1 adopted in 1973? Digitally for 2K that would be 2048×858.

Thanks all around. I downloaded the toolkit, the functionality looks great and is exactly what I am looking for. Far superior to the letterbox filter that is included.

The workaround is also great for potential projects with strangely oriented screens.

    Thanks again

    Rick,

The tool is simply a matting kit that “crops” a 1.78:1 source to 2.35:1. The Compressor Presets handle the cropping upon output …
