Wide Angle Lens Advice
Posted by Doug Lewis on March 11, 2006 at 9:37 pmI’ve posted this in other forums, but as always, I value the views of those on this forum. I currently own 3 cameras, a Canon GL1, a Canon GL2, and a Sony VX2100. What wide angle lens would everyone recommend? Should I use Canon’s WD-58H or Sony’s wide lens? How about a Kenko KRW-065 Pro DX? Any thoughts?

March 12, 2006 at 12:06 amI have 2 WAs for my 150s-a Century optics and a KenkoPro both a .65-They are both quite sharp and work very well although they both do lose a bit of sharpness if fully zoomed thru-of course WA lens attachments aren’t really made for that so… they both have very good to excellent sharpness on the edges of course they both also cost about 1 to 1-1/2 f/stops – more glass less light. Now having said that, I actually use the KenkoPro more than the CO-in my warped sense of values I figure if the KenkoPro takes a dump it cost less than the CO lens so therefore I haven’t last as much. Crazy right?!?!
I have grabbed a bag (all my kits are identical and contain the same gear so no matter which bag I grab I’m good to go) and whether its the CO or Kenko I really wasn’t able to tell the difference when shooting.
I know you weren’t asking about the CO lens but it’s my only test against the KenkoPro and I give the KenkoPro a thumbsup!Don B.

March 14, 2006 at 1:02 amI’d stick with the Canon WD58. I’ve used it on a GL1 and Sony PDX10 with good results, and Canon makes good lenses for the broadcast market.
