HI

wud love ur advice guys….n wud truly appreciate it…..

m goin to start a small production….vry vry vry tight budget…. :((

goin for a 550d canon body…. ( PLUS a tripod,homemade shoulder support rig,uv filters,CP, ND filters…)

now i want to ask one thing…

wich can be d best lens to buy within 300dollars
(canon,tamron,tokina,sigma)…..???????

i m not going for d KIT lens 18-55…..

my main purpose is MUSIC VIDEO SHOOTING/TV COMMERCIALS…..

so i need a lens with shallow depth of field(in daylight as well as night low light)….wich gives me a sort of bokeh but sharp look in night time as well….

lens shud have:
capability to take wide angle shots, plus good MS or tight shots of subjects(mostly ppl) ..il be going for 24fps like a cinematic look…….
plus good focussing in night time as well plus shalow dof…..

i knw a lot is post production…but right now need help wid lens choosing….

jst like 550 is a cheaper substitute for 7d….

i was wondering wich lens can be a cheaper substitute for expensive ones…..

also if i go against canon…n go for tamron,sigma or anyelse…den ppl say dat dese lenses r not 100% OK wid d body n might give sort of vignetting n stuff….

IS IT TRUE????shud i stay wid canon only or other lenses r better den canon within my range(less den 300 dollars)????

There’s lots of information already on the COW about budget lenses, so feel free to search around the forums a bit.

For your budget, I would get the kit lens, and a Canon 50mm prime lens as well. Use the zoom for wide angles and situations where you need to change framing fast, and use the prime for low light or shallow depth-of-field shots. Keep in mind that you cannot do a smooth zoom with any variable-aperture lens such as the kit lens.

Or…
Keep an eye out for older manual-focus prime lenses that can be adapted to your Canon, such as old Nikon or Olympus glass. You can often get them very cheaply at secondhand stores or on eBay, and adaptors are very affordable as well. I use an old Fujinon 50mm f/1.4 screw-mount prime lens with an adaptor on my 550D most of the time. For a zoom, I’ve heard good things about the older Tokina AF 28-70mm f/2.6-2.8 AT-X Pro as well. You can probably find one on eBay for under $300 if you watch carefully… make sure it’s for Canon EOS and not an old FD lens.

i think i will go for 50mm f1.8 prime….

its vry good n cheaper den f 1.4…. 🙂

as its a prime…it doesnt zoom …so framing can become tedious in small spaces…also it becomes 80mm on t2i….

but for d price it looks good…. :p

also can u plz tell …u use fujinon…..using different lenses wid diff body via adapter…does it coz any problem…like vigenetting or any loss in quality….my only purpose is VIDEO….

also Tokina AF 28-70mm sounds good…..

can u refer more such lenses for my purpose…..

my majority shots wud be :

1)mid shots of subject(in different lighting)
2)wide shots wid subject in nature/good locations etc(dis needs to be crisp as it will be required for good grading….its like a beauty shot…as subject in good locations…)
