  • Why some tiffs won’d save as jpeg’s ?

Posted by Larry Watts on June 8, 2007 at 6:47 pm

I scanned a bunch of slides using Nikon slide scanner and some of the Tiff files will not allow me to “save as” to a jpeg format (only three options given).
However, most of the tiff files allow me to “save as” jpegs without a hitch. ( THe format option is much longer with jpeg as one of them)

    I can’t figure out WHY?

It is a mystery to me.
    Anyone have an idea?

The scans were done at the same time. They are all rgb mode and the same size. I know I’m missing something!

    Thanks

    Larry

It could possibly be a similar issue to this:

From time to time I’ll get an image where I copy & then can’t paste into a new document. Its often a bits per channel issue.

Photoshop menu> Image> Mode> 8 bits per channel will give you the most saving options.

    Cheers,

The best way to eliminate all of the caveats with saving as a jpg is to use the “save for web” function… this will open up a window, where you can choose the jpg settings and then save it out.
