Why so slow?
I’m using another computer; G5, dual 2ghz, 2gb with FCS 2. Probably have a setting incorrect but making changes in the project [ moving jpgs, rendering, etc. are very, very slow. Activity monitor sez it’s going full bore but something must be wrong. My other G5, quad 2.33ghz, 4gb doesn’t choke up like that. Granted, it’s got more bore, but this one shouldn’t take that long [minutes], should it?

Another 2 Gigs of RAM in the G5 would probably help.

Thanks but I’m not signing the checks on that one. Anything else I could try? It’s not a big project; 4, 30’s with some footage, jpg’s, vo and music…

Did the project originate with FCP6?
What kind of drives do you have?
What format are you working in?
It’s kind of hard to tell you as FCP generally runs a lot faster with at least 4GBs of RAM.

Yes, it’s in 6. Internal drive is Maxtor 150, external is Medea 350. Maxtor is just over half full, Medea nowhere close. format is 740x x486
It’s now been rendering for over a half hour and is only at 80% for 4 spots.

UNcompressed SD on a SIngle SATA? That might be what’s slowing you down.

All the uncompressed sd is going on the medea raid with 350gb.

It was set to automatic. Just changed it. Thanks. I’ll check it out and let you know…

hope that helps a bit, but adding some more ram will also be beneficial…as has been said before! good luck!
