  • Why premiere pro while there is element?

Posted by Evrard Blom on June 1, 2006 at 10:09 am

    Hello,

I have posted this question in the adobe element forum too on the creativeCalf, well i found out element is 600$ cheaper than premiere pro, so iam wondering why would anyone buy premiere pro while they can have element for way cheaper?

What does premiere pro do that element can’t do? Is the price difference the most pertinent way to compare both softwares?

    Thank you

Lots of information on Adobe’s web site such as:

“Premiere Elements cannot use multiple timelines or nested sequences, batch capturing, surround-sound editing, and some Premiere Pro color correction tools. But like Pro, it can accommodate up to 99 video and audio tracks in the same project file.”

    Hope this helps

I do not know the differences in detail, however, I used Pemiere Elements for the first time last week and was very impressed. It is an incredible program for the money. I felt very at home using Elements after being a long time Premiere Pro user. Most of the shorcuts, toolbars, etc were similar and it worked great. One thing that I missed was the ability to use multiple timelines in Elements. If you are new to editing you may want to try Elements first. If you find yourself growing out of it you will migrate to PPro very easily because most of what you learned in Elements will transfer up to PPro. I think I saw Elements in the store for $100 with a $30 rebate. That price sure makes it attractive.

In addition to what was already mentioned, Elements only works with DV/HDV project settings.

Most pros need more options (at least I do) as I work in SD uncompressed and various HD settings all the time.

If you are only using DV or HDV and doing relatively simple editing…PPro might be overkill for you and maybe Elements is all you need…

Could Elements be the cheap DV/HDV offline application for PPro? Can you import an elements project into PPro?
