Why no ‘Create Optimized media’ option?

There are no separete render files in FCPX. It writes the new render-data in a database file. It is good because the connection will NEVER gone between the project clip and the render data. It is bad because you can’t reach the standalone render files like in FCP7.

The big change: “Current Settings” does not mean anymore the Sequence (here Project) settings.

In FCPX the current settings = RENDER SETTINGS (ProRes4444/422HQ/422/10bit Uncompressed).

For your question: sometime it would be easier to find a previous render file (for analyzing, sharing, reusing…etc) in the render folder, than hitting undo..undo…undo…etc.

All in all: the new render management is better than in FCP7 and FCPX is smart enough to NOT allow export an HDV master directly from FCPX.

This is not entirely true. While FCP does use a data base to keep track of the render files, the rendered media is in a folder attached to the project and can be dumped at any time. You can also trash renders from inside FCP.

That’s correct. A media file gets created in the Render folder. The media file is in ProRes.

When you export media with current settings you’re not exporting HDV. You’re exporting in the render format, which by default is ProRes.

Sorry Tom, I am not perfect in english. What does it mean “dumped”?

Because

in my Final Cut Projects folder there are the folders named after the projects 🙂
In those there are the CurrentVersion.fcpproject file and the Render Files folder.
In the Render Files folder there are three subfolder: High Quality Media, Peaks Data, Thumbnail Media. In each of them there are a lot crucifix named folder….
…and at the and: document files like this: Frame 48128 – 49151.

So where can I find and how can I “dumped” the ProRes mov render files you mentioned above???

The High Quality Media contains the ProRes data base. By dump I mean move to the the trash. Which actual files refer to which bits of the project I don’t have any way of knowing, but these files can be deleted at any time and FCP will rebuild them.
