  • Why isn't 'animate' option available for polygons like it is for text?

I’m following a tutorial to extrude text using the C4D renderer, and it instructs me to adjust the color using the ‘animate’—>front—>color options. I’m trying to follow this method for shape layers as opposed to text, however, there’s no ‘animate’ in the upper righthand for my shape layer–it only says “add.” Is there no way to apply the animate options to a shape layer?

For context, look at this screenshot with an extrude star (no color added), next to random text which I was able to access animate–>front—-> color to change the text to a different color from the extrusion. This is what I’m trying to achieve with the star.

It appears my image isn’t showing up. I’ll come back to this tomorrow..

I can’t see your image, so it’s difficult to judge what you’re after. Shape layers do have keyframeable properties.

To change the colour of a shape, you can use the Fill keyframes of on the shape. If you’re wanting to adjust of the front shape, it might be worth using a drop shadow effects to create your extrusion background and make it a solid colour.

As someone who works for a software company, I can almost guarantee the real reason shape layers don’t have an animate option is because they will have been built by a completely separate team at a completely different time to the Text team. Getting consistency of approaches is a very difficult thing to wrangle when better/different solutions are available.

Thank you Quince. Since the image wouldn’t show up, maybe you can see from the thumbnail of this video that the front side of his text is a different color from the extruded part. This is what I’m trying to achieve
