  • Why is text blurry/pixelated when exported to Quicktime file?

Posted by Chris Mason on October 7, 2011 at 4:42 am

Hi. I have a DV/NTSC 16×9 sequence with some subtitles and on-screen text. It looks great in FCP. When I export a Quicktime file using tose settings, the video and subtitles all look great in Quicktime X. In Quicktime 7 the text looks awful. It becomes very pixelated and blurry. Even the video doesn’t look at good in QT7.

I have to have a video that plays well in QT7 and for the life of me I can’t seem to find the right mix of settings to achieve that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

In QT7 go to Window>Show Movie Properties>Click on the video track in the top pane, then go to the Visual Settings Tab button below and make sure the High Quality box is ticked.

Also DV NTSC footage will always look a bit crap on a hi res monitor screen since it’s destined for presentation on a TV, which is inherently les resolution yet the text will look fine on there.
