  • Why is QT Export taking so long?

Posted by Dan Herz on July 16, 2012 at 4:51 pm

I am exporting to Quicktime several FCP 7.0.3 projects. They are all very simple videos with 2 tracks of video and 1 track of audio. They range in length from 1:30 to 4:00. I am a bit perplexed by the fact that it takes some of the videos less than a minute to export to QT…and others take a great deal more time to export. They all contain similar media shot from the same camera, similar in length, they are all rendered properly…can’t figure it out. Curious if anyone has any explanation for this…I have experienced this before

If the timeline isn’t rendered…it will take longer.

None of the reasons listed above would explain it…all videos are rendered, identical codec, effects, etc…no motion applied, etc.
