Why is my viewer so slow?
I am just about to start editing a new project but the viewer in FCP is sooo sloow. If I make a sequence and play it in the canvas it is allright. Its just the viewer
Could this have anything to do with the format of my media files?The process of importing the media files to FCP has been trouble full as the files have been converted from MTS files (Sony I think) to Mov files using a emisoft converter.
Does anyone have an idea of how I can change the settings to make FCP work with the files?
Any suggetions?Here is some info about my files, :
Video settings:
encoder: MPEG 4
Resolution: 1920*1080
Frame rate: 29.97 fps
Video bitrate: 10000 kbpsAudio settings
Encoder: AAC
Samplerate: 44100Hz
Channels: two channels stereo
Audio bitrate: 192 kbpsHope somebody has a clue!

I’d say media format is a safe bet. Re-encode the MTS as a ProRes vid. MPEG4 is a delivery format, not really suitable for editing

I second that. I’ve just begun cutting with Final Cut and have all of my MTS files ingested via log and transfer to Pro Res 422 which looks great.

So I shoud convert the MTS files to ProRes vid/por res 422? Is that a format? I am not sure I have heard about it before. And is it something i can do via FCP?

Yep, if you’re using Final Cut Studio 2, it supports ProRes. Open you clips in Compressor, select Prores, and have at it….When finished, import the new files into your project. unfortunately anything you may have cut already will have to be cut again, using the new files. Don’t use ProRes HQ, since that is extreme overkill; takes a lot more HD space, and you won’t see a difference.
The 422 refers to color space.
