  • Why is my material pixelated?

Posted by Caroline Anthony on August 19, 2015 at 2:45 pm

    Hello all,

I created a simple material that renders with a strange pixelation – see attached photo. The color texture is fresnel, 10% luminance, simple turbulence as a bump, and a little specularity. I increased the anti-aliasing settings, thinking that might be it, to no avail. I also scaled up my model 600% wondering if the program had trouble putting a material on a small object (I’m just grasping at straws).

    Any help appreciated!!!

    Thanks

What is the mapping for the texture? it looks like it might be cubic (but just guessing)

It is not cubic. The texture tag is set to UVW Mapping as projection, Side – both, and I checked ‘Seamless’.

I figured it out. Something funky was happening with the bump map in the material settings. Setting the projection to Cubic (interestingly) instead of UVW Mapping on the texture tag helped the bump map lay correctly without pixelation. Turning it off altogether also helped 🙂
