  • why is log and capture so difficult?

i have upgraded from a g3 to a g4 and now i have a quad g5 with fcp5. i still have problems inputing my video using log and capture. the audio always works but the video does not. i reseat cables. cycle vcr power. cycle fcp5. reboot the g5. eventually it works. is there a sure fire way to capture first time every time? is it my vcr that causes the problems? usually when i reboot the g5 that works. now the g5 is crashing. i guess i have to trash the prefs. thx in advance.

You have a VCR and not a VTR? Yeah, a VCR would definitely be the problem. No real video sync. You need to be using at least semi pro gear like a cheap DV camera with TC. Tell us exactly what your setup is.

I can honestly say I NEVER have problems with Log and Capture when I’ve marked my INs and OUTs and then Batch Captured using a DV deck (or camcorder) connected via FireWire.

You didn’t say WHAT your “VCR” was or how it was connected.

Can you be VERY SPECIFIC as to your set-up, so we might be a bit more helpful?

Uncontrollable device is never a good way to digitize. Shoot with proper timecode and then use machine control to digitize.
