  • Why don’t markers show up when using MAX?

Exported QT files from FCP 6.06 with markers.
Playing in QT Player 7.6.4 the files show markers.
In Compressor 3.0.5, the QT files show markers.
Using Compressor presets the resultant H.264 movies show markers when playing in QT Player.
Using Matrox MAX H.264 the resultant H.264 movies do NOT show markers when playing in QT player.

Why don’t the markers show up when using MAX encoder?
How can I get the markers to appear when using MAX encoder?

Well a little more research at the Matrox site came up with a thread started in October, 2009 aptly summarized by the following entry:

“It’s definitely a bug and one that they have acknowledged and are looking to fix – a fairly major bug at that! No timescales yet on a fix.

I’m using the workaround of extracting the Text track of the original file and applying it to the compressed file using QuickTime 7. It’s a pain but it does work.”

There you have it. Software bug and an inconvenient workaround. For more info on extracting that text track see this tutorial:
