Why doesn’t Premiere Pro support new Geforce cards?
Just trying to figure this out since I’m looking at getting a new windows system…
Adobe lists it’s recommended hardware and supported GPU cards here: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/system-requirements.html
Although the Quadro cards they support are new, the GeForce cards they list are considered “Legacy” by Nvidia. Since the GeForece cards tend to give you more bang (Cuda cores) for your buck compared to the Quadro cards, why doesn’t Adobe support the newer GeForce cards?
This article recommends using newer 900 series GeForce cards since they have way more Cuda cores, but those are not “recommended” by Adobe. https://www.pugetsystems.com/recommended/Recommended-Systems-for-Adobe-Premiere-Pro-143/Hardware-Recommendations#CPU and the last thing I want is to keep trouble shooting GPU issues on a brand new computer. Any advice? Or should I just buy a currently supported quadro card, and sell it and upgrade later if they expand their supported list of cards?

Premiere can use any CUDA or OpenCL card that has more than a gig of VRAM. If the card isn’t on the official list Premiere will warn about it but it’ll let you use it. There might be some issues.

So as far as Mac goes, is that also the case? Because I have a Mac with a Quadro 4000 that was working fine, but when we updated to CC 2015, the Cuda option in Premiere went away and the Quadro 4000 for mac was also dropped from the recommended list for CC2015 (it is still listed for the older versions of Adobe though).

I have 2 quadro 4000 mac cards, they work fine in cc 2015.
check to see if the geforce driver and or cuda driver can
be updated in system preferences. -
I have “GPU (Open CL)” available, but not “GPU (Cuda)”. There are no more newer drivers, I’m also on the latest version of Mac OSX.

hhmm if you have cuda installed and see the icon in system
preferences and no update available comes up when you hit update
and there is no CUDA option in premiere something is a miss.I’m on Mavericks so no ideas but possibly something to have
to do with latest os x.You should be seeing CUDA as an option in premiere.

I was tricked by the Mac OS (again)! So I guess you can’t always update Cuda from inside system preferences. I was on a much older version than the current Cuda driver available on Nvidia’s website. Once I updated from there I got everything back.

I ran into that when I updated to Mavericks.
The cuda preference app said it was current…it was 2 versions old!
