Why doesn’t FCP set Anamorphic flag on AE exports?
Posted by Matthew London on March 12, 2006 at 9:15 pmThis is a mildly annoying problem in AE 6.5. All my comps are set to PAL Widescreen, but when I render them and bring into FCP, they always come in without the Anamorphic flagged. I have to do it manually, which is easy, but I am going back and forth all day.
Suggestions? Thanks…Zander replied 20 years, 2 months ago 3 Members · 4 Replies -

March 13, 2006 at 2:51 amTreading on OT territory, I guess …
My roommate and I did a couple of tests with AE and FCP, and came to the conclusion that FCP does not correctly interpret movies as anamorphic — even if that movie was exported from FCP. The ‘Anamorphhic’ property flag has to be set ‘by hand’ after being imported, even if all preferences are set to 16:9 anamorphic.
Strangely, it seems that earlier versions of FCP (like pre-v3 or something) could correctly automatically recognize anamorphic movies. This page:https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/understanding_16_9.html
seems to show evidence of this.
mlondon, maybe an answer to this would be an automation solution. Email me by way of https://www.crgreen.com and maybe I can whip up a solution for you. I’ll need to ask you some questions about the way you’re working (I have a few possibilities in my head, each of which depend on a number of factors) and don’t want to do that here, since this really is an FCP issue.

March 13, 2006 at 5:53 amit occors to me, that compressor (most people view it as usless, and it really is alot of the time) might beable to make a program or “drople” (emphisize quotes because honestly…who thinks these names up, i mean droplet i sware steve jobs passes around more then knowlege that he got from berkley if ya know what i mean [and im ranting again sorry]) but any wy a compressor “droplet” could possibly be created to take footage A and convert it into flagged anamorphic footage, in a seperate folder, compressor is a confusing program but from what ive seen and understood of it, it might beable to do such a thing, where you drop the a.e. footage in a folder and it converts it and puts it into another folder ready for you to use.
or i could be completly off, i dunno ask the fcp or compressor guys

March 13, 2006 at 6:11 amok after further research and my memor reminded me about something on lafcpug (los angeles final cut pr users group) it washow to make an aiff coverter droplet, i then opened it up and and followed the instruction and then tweeked them to fit our (your) needs. in our case, fallow teh instrucdtions but instead of selecting aiff select quicktime movie, and the there will be a settings button, and u can choose pal and then your format and whether or not it’s progressive scan (there may be another format optionbetter suited.
fallow the instructions there basicly generic after you set up what your creating. it should work and be alot easier then doing it by hand, just drag and drop, and let it be it will do all the work for you
hopefully this helps
here’s the link https://www.lafcpug.org/Tutorials/basic_droplet.html
enjoy
