  • Why Does Vegas Captured Clips Crash Vegas??

Can someone please explain why Vegas Pro 9.0e will capture some clips that will crash Vegas when I drop these into the time line?

The footage is from HDV tape. I re-captured this one shot from the tape that was crashing Vegas, the same shot is STILL crashing Vegas. Re-capturing did not help. The shots from the tape before and after this one…. no problem. This has happened in 2 shots so far in the first 4 minutes of this project. The first one was OK after I re-captured it. The 2nd one is not working after re-capturing.

What would cause a shot captured in Vegas not work in Vegas which would shut down Vegas? I’ve sent 20 or so “Reports” from the “Vegas has stopped working…” window to Sony in the past 2 days; which I wonder if they even receive. Anyway, this is really shutting down progress on this wedding video.

    Thanks,

    Ken

Also I just discover something else. The first clip that was crashing Vegas that I re-captured and is now working isn’t getting saved with the project. When I reload the project where this clip was is now replaced with a completely different clip…. from a different bin/folder even. When I check its properties, it is the name of the clip that SHOULD be there, but its actually a different clip with a different name.

Why is Vegas exchanging clips in the time line when I reload the project? I’m beginning to think Vegas Pro 9.0e has some kind of bug in capturing because it just doesn’t like some of my footage.

    Please advise soon, thank.

If you have another drive, like an external one, save your project as, then check the box at the bottom left that says copy media with file. Then open the new one and see what happens. Sounds like Virus, as I’ve never seen this and I’ve used Vegas since it started, as audio only, probably ten years ago. Danny Hays

Dan- I will do that in the morning and report back. I’m new at Vegas coming from the VideoToaster world after 20 years. Don’t like hearing “I’ve never seen this before” coming from a Vegas vet like yourself. I don’t want to be the first with new problems Vegas has never seen before. Hope I can figure this out and get moving on this project as I have about 20 more waiting in line for edit.

    Thanks,

    Ken

I mean I’ve never experienced it. I’ve heard of it before.

I would re-link all the right files and save as I said.
This will give you a new .veg file, linking all the newley copied clips, from a different location. If it still happens, I would move the original clip folder that contain the wrong clips that are added.

Ok. Thanks! That eliminates the baseline of understanding if you have appropriate hardware. You do. So we are on to the more complex possible issues. I have not yet experienced this problem in using Vegas.

I’m still finding too many clips that Vegas captured that is crashing Vegas. Is there or is there not a bug in 9.0e capture? Why did the simple project I did before this one have no problems and now this one does?

When I capture from HDV tape to Vegas and Vegas is making a new clip (file) for each shot and I end up with about 100 shots from the 60min tape, why would many of the clips (randomly) be corrupt? Why are some OK and others not? Do I have to scrap everything and re-capture all my footage again (a 5 hour process) and hope I don’t get any corrupt clips (files)?

Like I said, most my projects with be at this level of creativity using lots of effects and layers of video and audio. I need an NLE that can handle my edits. And after reviewing Vegas and other NLE’s I switched to Vegas from my old NLE.

So, I can’t believe I’m the only person this is happening to.
