Why does Vegas 8.0c show that max available memory is 1024 MB since I have 2GB RAM?
I have 4×512 same memory sticks Kingston HyperX Dual Channel Kits installed and Win XP shows correctly 2GB Ram in system properties.
However in Vegas in Dynamic RAM Preview settings I can see that I can set it up to 1024 as this is what Vegas show as max.
Is this a bug or something else?

It is not a bug. If you have 2GB of RAM it would be physically impossible to allow it all to be used for RAM preview since the Windows OS and Vegas application itself need RAM to run. Vegas allows you to allows 1/2 of the total RAM which for you is 1024MB.

Thanks John for the answer, but the issue is that some months ago I had 2×512 Ram installed and in Vegas it showed max again 1024. Later I found the same kit to buy and made it 4×512.
I have also found a second hand 4x1gb kit at unbeatable price( I expect WinXP to be able to show 3.5GB in system properties) but I really wonder if Vegas will be able to show 2GB max then?

I have 4 GB of RAM and Vegas 8C shows only 1024 … maybe Vegas 8.1 on 64 bits will be different ???

I posted the same question in Sony’s forum and a guy answered that Vegas can go as high as 1024. Maybe this is the case.
By the way Enrique, you have 4GB ram on 32bit XP? Does it show full 4GB in system properties or 3.5?

As I said, Vegas will always show 1/2 of the available RAM. It doesn’t matter that the physical RAM in your computer is 4GB, Windows XP has an imposed limit that each application cannot use more than 2GB of RAM for data unless they are Large Address Aware (which none of the Sony products are). So Windows is giving Vegas 2GB of your 4GB of memory and Vegas is letting you choose up to 1/2 (1GB) for RAM preview.
