What is the full specs of your footage – fps, progressive, size and so on.

    It’s progressive. All 1920 x 1080. All 29.97fps

Do you have AE? If yes, I’d really go for downsizing the footage in AE to SD, and then encoding it for DVD in Compressor. Settings to best.

I do have AE. Maybe I will try both and then burn both and compare.

Thanks! Will let you know how it turns out.

    Yes, please, keep me updated.
From own experience and from feedbacks on the COW, I do know,
that Compressor is not doing a good job in downscaling. Those staggered lines you experienced exactly comes from that. Also: AE is a lot faster in ds than compressor.
But try both and see what bakes the Cookie for you.

ok so.. so far changing the compressor frame control setting to best for scaling didnt work. Same image quality and everything.

For the AE one. How exactly would this be done? I put the file in a new comp? Then scale the comp down? WHatare the steps for doing this properly?

    1. Drop Footage to make new AE Project with exact length

    2. Cmnd+K open Settings dialog => set the settings you want e.g. PAL 720*576 (4:3)

    3. Select Footage in Time Line and Press Shift+Option+Cmnd+H to automatically resize footage

    4. Press Cmnd+M to make Movie

    5. In the output settings define which codec you want it – best here for compressor go for Apple ProRes

    There you go!

    [Joe Martino] “It’s progressive. All 1920 x 1080. All 29.97fps”

    This is insufficient.
How about you give us a break, and not make everyone play ‘twenty questions’ in order to help you.
I have a pretty good idea of what is wrong, and I don’t think it’s necessary to go through AE either.
    But without this info:
    1. Source footage codec.
    2. Sequence (timeline) settings.
    3. Exact workflow from FCP to DVDSP.
Without that, it’s all a guessing game.

Don’t take this the wrong way but…
You could also go to the DVD Studio Pro forum. The FCP to DVDST isn’t all that complicated. Between RTFM and reading some of the postings in the forum, you could probably figure this out pretty easy.

    Slightly OT
I’ll second the opinion that poor spelling (onscreen) makes you look like an amateur. Much quicker than poor editing does.
Spell cheek doesn’t always get it wright. A good rule is two never proof reed you’re own work. A second set of eyes will often catch things you have seen a hundred times.
    See what I mean?

I have a system, it has stuff in it, and stuff hooked to it. I have a camera, it can record stuff. I read the manuals, and know how to use this stuff and lots of other stuff too.
    You should be suitably impressed…

lol why are people on this forum so angry all the time? I always am seeing fights and arguing etc. Nobody has patience for the people who don’t do this every day of their life.

    ANYWAY,
    1. Most of the footage is in Apple Prores 422. I use Log and Transfer and that codec is the setting I use when transfering.

    2. 1920 x 1080 HDTV1080i 16:9
    Pixel Aspect is Square
    Field is Upper
    compressor is 422 HQ

3.select region I want to export. Export self contained at CURRENT SETTINGS. Take that file and open compressor. Add the file. Drag on 90 minutes best quality DVD settings. Submit. Take the m2v and go to DVDSP, import the assets. Add them to a track. Burn. If you read about you can see some other tests I did changing some frame controls before compressing.

As for the spelling etc.. that’s not the issue here.. why waste words? it’s NOT a final product its a rough draft mostly used for testing exporting to DVD and outputs. lol For one moment lets just relax.

    Wow, wow, hold your horses!
I agree, some questions are not necessary.
But different levels of knowledge, different questions.
I agree, there’s too much dissing here sometimes, no patience and
too much judgmental attitude! The guy asked nicely and politely a question, no need to read him his rights!
I would get an answer like this, i would feel guilty of being born in the first place.

We are all in here because we want to seek answers & help others,
I think it’s not the place for ego competition and “who can pee further contests”.
Sorry, for being a bit emotional now, but I just feel it’s not justifed!
