  • Why does the frame rate drop on Flash movie playback?

Posted by Simon Malcolm on January 28, 2009 at 7:42 am

I’ve exported a QuickTime movie (Animation codec) at 25 fps from Flash 9.0 and it plays fine in QT Player. When I import the clip into FCP 6.0.5 it shows the frame rate as 14 fps and doesn’t play the animation smoothly.

Is there a step I am missing?

    Thanks,

    Simon.

Post more about this animation… what was the original frame size, and why use the Animation codec? I think that the animation codec has a lot of weird problems with FCP that seem to have little explanation. That said, what is your intended delivery? Is this animation just a part of the program or all of it? I don’t think you’ve made an error per se.

What is your sequence setting in FCP?
The Animation codec cannot be played smoothly in real time on most Macintosh systems without proprietary hardware support.

Thanks Jerry and bogiesan…You’re quite right…I discovered that when I exported a QuickTime from Flash as a H.264 the problem was rectified. Thank you for pointing out the potential issues with using the Animation codec in this setting.

It’s all fixed…I appreciate your help.
